Alex Smith

Research Analyst

Alexander Smith joined Canalys in August 2007. As a member of the enterprise team, his primary responsibilities are to conduct research and support the company’s Unified Communications and Enterprise Security portfolio of services, which includes collation of market data and assessing vendor performance.

Prior to joining Canalys, Alex obtained his bachelor’s degree in Commerce Co-op with a major in Finance from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. As part of his degree, Alex studied various disciplines other than finance, including business strategy, statistics, and economics. Being a co-op programme, Alex was able to gain work experience during his degree. He spent eight months in total with an exploration company in Calgary as a junior financial analyst. His primary role there was to monitor company financial data to ensure actual results were in line with budgets, and to analyse reasons for any discrepancies.

Alex has roots in both Thailand and the United Kingdom, and has also spent time in the Middle East and North America.
